Happy July, Xbox Ambassadors! It’s the first full month of summer, which makes us think of things like lemonade, the great outdoors, and playing our favorite video games with the windows wide open. It also means we have a new Ambassador of the Month to highlight – SammieChaos!
SammieChaos is a positive force as an Xbox Ambassador, always taking time to welcome new gamers and offering encouragement to her fellow community members. Let’s take a moment to hear from our latest Ambassador of the Month!
I’ve been an Xbox dedicated gamer since Xbox 360 first came out, I had never heard of the program until January of this year when I received an email invitation to join, I was curious about the program and signed up right away. After signing up I didn’t spend much time on the site or completing missions, but once I learned what the Ambassador program was all about by completing the academy quizzes, I started taking more initiative, because I knew I wanted to be a part of something great and help make a difference.
One of my favorite gaming memories is when I first started playing Rainbow Six: Vegas 2. I came in contact with a few players on PvP who were on the opposite team as me. I received a message after the match about how good of a player I was. They ended up recruiting me, then helped me learn to become a better player. We would run closed PvP matches to do training and learn how to avoid traps. It helped me become a much better tactical player. I even earned a nickname due to my armor, they started calling me “The Walking Tank”. I was slow moving but could take lots of damage. It was definitely some of the best gaming fun I had ever had.
The internet wasn’t a super big thing when I was a kid, once online gaming really hit, the internet became a place for people to be something different. Not all of those were positive, I’ve experienced the hardships of being a younger player online, along with the negativity that others may produce. So, it’s important to me to ensure that everyone can feel welcomed, as well as safe when playing online with others. Playing games is an outlet and an escape for most of us, we all want to be able to have a fun experience; I want to make sure that all gamers can experience the greatness of gaming in a fun, inclusive environment.
There are lots of things I really enjoy about being an Ambassador, but my favorite part is the community. The Xbox Ambassador community is full of so many amazing people and very thankful to be a part of this community. Also, the opportunity to meet new friends is best part about the community because of how friendly and involved everyone is. I could never ask for a better group of genuinely caring people as the Xbox Ambassadors. I love my amby family and am truly humbled to be a part of something this magical.
The most interesting fact about me is that I’m super into LARPing (Live Action Role Play). I started playing D&D about 7 years ago with a group of friends. I was never that much into it, but was always curious about how it worked. After getting hooked on D&D they introduced me to LARP, at the time I thought it was a bit much, but I still gave it a shot. LARPing is probably one of my best experiences. You get to dress up and be a completely different person in a fantasy world. My first character was an Elf Warlock, who was also a Pirate captain. After retiring my first character and ending her storyline, I played a Revenant who was an undead necromancer / Seer.
One of my non-gaming hobbies include tinkering. Ever since I was a kid, I’ve always been very innovative. I like to fix things, and once I start tinkering it’s hard to get me to stop. When I was about 9 years old, I managed to fix a completely broken bop-it toy with super glue and kitchen utensils. To this day still enjoy working on things and fixing them, from the simplest item such as a tv remote, even the most difficult such as cars. It keeps me focused and helps me with problem solving.
Community is family. It’s a place where you can grow, learn, and support the people around you. A free space to be who you truly are, while coming together to create amazing opportunities for yourself, as well as others. Meeting new people, learning about new things, and being open to new ideas. Every community is different, but in the end we all have the same goals, to make a difference.
All-time favorite game? That’s definitely a hard one to choose. If I had to pick one, I‘d say Final Fantasy X. I’ve always loved the game; I still have my old PlayStation 2 and every now and then I load it up to play. Final Fantasy has always been a favorite of mine, and I’ll always go back to it. Out of all of the older Final Fantasy games X just really appeals to me, I’ve always thought it had such a great story, it was so mysterious and always left me itching to find the truth of the storyline.
