Community spotlight: Last Spartan Standing tournament winner

Ambassador team members Mister Edge and Mister Ruxpin recently hosted an Xbox Ambassador Halo 5 Tournament: Last Spartan Standing. 36 contestants battled it out in a “free for all” to be the first with 15 kills. Players went head-to-head, round by round, leaving just one left standing in the winner circle. This time around we named AkA Ununited as the champion.

We are proud to have such a skillful gamer as part of our community. As a special “Congratulations” for winning the tournament, we are featuring AkA Ununited in our Community Spotlight. We asked him questions about Last Spartan Standing, his history as an Xbox fan, and the Ambassador Program. Check out what he had to say in return!

How long have you been gaming?

I’ve been gaming for a very long time, almost too long to remember, but my first memory is playing Mario on my sister’s Nintendo 64. I received my own console when my dad surprised me with an original Xbox, and I’ve been an Xbox fan ever since.

Can you tell us about your first experience with Halo?

My first introduction to Halo was in 2004 with Halo 2. I was about eight years old and I was lucky enough to rent it from a local video store, back when they were everywhere! I played many video games before, but I was completely blown away by Halo 2. Even for my young age, I was captivated by the action and story of the game. I could go on about how Halo has impacted my life, but from that day forward, I was a Halo fan, playing every game since.

What did you do to prepare for this tournament?

Going into it, I wasn’t too nervous so I didn’t worry much about practicing too hard. My mindset was, “If I lose, at least I had fun. If I win, well, I’m a happy player.” Stressing too hard about anything will always be for nothing, so I went into the tournament ready to have fun. I’ve played Halo 5 a lot since the release and I was confident in my skills.

Which match in this tournament was your favorite?

This is a tough one. It’s hard to choose because I loved all the matches. They were all intense and had great competition. With that said, I must admit that the first round of the tournament was my favorite! It was a close match all the way through and it came down to a three-way tie in the last few seconds. It was me, Sanana94, and Danny0177, all in sudden death to win. Sanana94 and I were in a 1 vs. 1 when Danny won the game. I was hyped after that first game, even with a second-place finish. It really set the mood for the rest of the tournament.

What games are you interested in playing in future tournaments?

I would like to see a lot of different games. Destiny, Overwatch, Titanfall 2, and Halo 2 are my recommended choices. I personally love 1 vs. 1 and 2 vs. 2 tournaments, so having that as an option would be epic too. It just depends on what people would play, really. I will always be fine with more Halo 5, to be honest. 🙂

What is your favorite thing about being an Xbox Ambassador?

My favorite thing about being an Ambassador is being able to personally help people on a casual level. In the end, some people just want another gamer to talk to about their issues, and being able to help people fix something on Xbox is always a great feeling.

How long have you been an Ambassador?

I recently joined the Ambassador Program after seeing a tweet from the Xbox Support Twitter account. I looked into the program and saw that it’s a way to help people in the community and chat about something we all care about. Not long after I joined I saw promotions about the Last Spartan Standing Tournament and I knew I would have to apply. I’m going to grind out the new Ambassador season starting in July by chatting and helping as many community members as possible.

Here is one final sentiment from our tournament winner…

I’m glad to be a part of the Ambassador Program and the opportunities it gives to support the Xbox community. Also, ‘Good Game’ to every Ambassador who participated in the tournament. It was a lot of fun!

We’d like to also extend a huge “thank you” to all of the participants. We are looking forward to seeing you in the next tournament. Have a request for a tournament game? Be sure to mention it below in the comments!
