We’re very excited to announce our newest Ambassador of the month—blueamcat! She’s been an active and prominent member of the Xbox Ambassadors community since the program launched—including beta. Blueamcat has continuously found new and innovative ways to reach high tiers within the program and provide the community with positivity, inclusion, and elite Xbox expertise.
Take a chance to learn more about blueamcat, and maybe say hello to her in Discord!
How do you define community, and what makes it important to you?
To me, community is any group of people that get together online or in-person with something in common or with a similar goal. Even in gaming, it can be so many different things! Going for achievements, finishing a co-op campaign, or simply playing a few rounds of Halo. A community is what you make it. It’s important to bring your best into any community you join. Don’t join a community to tear it down. Help build it up and make it better!
You’ve been involved with the program longer than most Xbox Ambassadors. Has being an Ambassador changed the way you look at the Xbox Community? If so, how?
Absolutely. Being an active Ambassador over the years has really helped me feel more connected and involved in the Xbox community. I feel that I have a voice, and that I can be a positive and helpful presence for gamers all over the world! I’ve become a lot more involved with the Xbox community in general as a product of being an ambassador.
What’s your favorite game of all time, on any platform? What kinds of memories does it bring back?
I think I’d have to go all the way back to the Nintendo GameCube for that answer. Super Smash Bros Melee was a game I spent a LOT of time on. My sister and I would host our friends during the summer when it was too hot or too rainy to be outside. A close second would definitely be Halo: CE on the OG Xbox! I spent a lot of my high school years playing Halo at a friend’s house every weekend during the summer. We had anywhere from two to four Xbox consoles set up at one time. I wasn’t great at it, but we always had a blast.
When did you first start gaming, and do you remember what game got you started?
I started gaming when I was about 8 years old. Back in 1993 or so, my dad bought a Nintendo NES system at a garage sale. It had Super Mario Bros/Duck Hunt and even came with the gun controller! My dad, sister, and I spent hours trying to save the princess. After playing lots of Mario in different forms, I eventually moved onto PC. Gaming has come a long way since Windows 3.1!
What upcoming game are you looking forward to the most and why?
At this point I’m looking forward to eventually playing the games that came out just recently—games like The Division 2 and Apex Legends! A lot of the recent Games with Gold have caught my attention as well. I never got around to playing PvZGW2, Q.U.B.E.2, or Adventure Time. So many good ones I want to get to playing!
You’ve highlighted your love of Destiny 2 in the past. What do you play these days when you’re looking to mix it up?
I enjoy so many genres now. I used to play pretty much only FPS titles, but in the last few years, I’ve really gotten into more indie games. If I need a break, I hop into a game I still need to complete. Right now, that would be Titanfall 2, Thomas Was Alone, or Forza Horizon 4 just to name a few. My list keeps growing though. (haha.)
What are some of your hobbies outside of gaming altogether?
Before I got married and had my two adorable children, one seasonal job I had for about two years was teaching kids how to snowboard! I learned to snowboard when I was seventeen and used my love of boarding to help young kids get on their own two feet. 😀 Other than being a stay at home mom, I have my own photography and graphic design business. I started my business almost ten years ago and specialized in wedding and family photography. Nowadays, I do a lot more graphic design, but I still very much enjoy photography.
Being a Minnesota resident, I got into other snow sports as well. My dad almost always had snowmobiles when I was growing up, and still does. My son and husband are featured in the photo. Another thing I really enjoy is visiting other states—driving or flying—I love travel. My sister lived in Colorado for a few years and I got to go visit her and her husband a few times. I’ve been to quite a few states, but there are definitely a few more on my list I want to visit.
Your love of coffee is well known. What’s your favorite kind of coffee roast, and what’s your favorite kind of espresso drink?
Oh, wow. My favorite roast. I’m not sure I really have a favorite, but over the last year or so I’ve been leaning more towards darker roasts for sure. My favorite espresso drink is a cappuccino. I used to make a mean cappuccino when I was a barista at Caribou Coffee. Being a barista was probably my favorite client-facing job by far.
You made an awesome graphic recently with some words of advice for your fellow Ambassadors. If you could give any *one* piece of advice to someone who’s new to the program, what would it be?
Get to know the Ambassador family! Once you jump in, the people are nice and inviting. You’ll make friends fast if you are friendly yourself! It’s much easier to learn and to get to know the ins and outs if you feel comfortable in the community that you just joined.
A huge round of applause for blueamcat, we’re so happy to have her be part of this community for so long. Make sure to give her some love in the comments below. If you know of an awesome Ambassador who deserves to be Ambassador of the month, tell your CM.
