Ambassador spotlight: Albert X

This month, we had the opportunity to chat with Albert X, an Ambassador of nearly five years who frequents the Lounge and stays active on Twitter. Albert X keeps busy with the Program (he’s already reached Elite Tier in Season Five!) as well as in other communities. Below, you’ll be able to learn more about Albert X, a Support Chat enthusiast who puts time and effort into keeping the love of all things Xbox thriving in Puerto Rico.

Keep an eye out for upcoming episodes of This Week on Xbox, as Albert X is set to appear in a “Did You Know?” segment with a handy tip about redeeming Xbox Live codes!

How long have you been a member of the Xbox Community? What do you love most about playing on Xbox Live?

I have been an active member of the Xbox Community since the Xbox 360 was launched on November 22, 2005. I was the first pre-order in all of Puerto Rico. So you can say 12 years. My Gamertag is Albert X – everyone thinks the X is for Xbox, but it is actually for [my middle name.]

In 2010 I felt a calling to create community initiatives [in] Puerto Rico as I saw that the gaming industry did not take our market seriously. So thus began different projects to unite gamers and communities of many types, ranging from shooters to RPGs and racing games.

What I love most about Xbox Live is the friendships I have been able to create over the years. [M]y best friend is a fellow Ambassador, whom I have never had the pleasure of meeting face to face, yet we have created a bond that transcends distance.

From earlier talks, it sounds like you’re involved with the Xbox Community in a lot of different ways. Can you share some of the ways you get involved – whether it’s volunteering or celebrating Xbox within your community?

I first started via Facebook and with a local gaming website, as Lead News Editor. At that point, I started doing YouTube videos with unboxings and weekly game releases. As time went by I was able to produce several events such as “The Gaming Tent” at the Smokin’ Hot BBQ Competition where we provided Xbox entertainment to all visitors […] three years in a row.

Once the Microsoft Store opened here in Puerto Rico, I contacted management in order to help with midnight launches and other in-store events. Among those launch events were: Gears of War Judgment, Injustice Gods Among Us, Resident Evil: Revelations, Grid 2 and others.

I also had the privilege of being asked by the American Cancer Association to head and organize their Children’s Tent for the annual Relay for Life. In this event, not only did we provide many Xbox games for the kids to enjoy, but we also had massive support from the cosplay community, which truly took the event to the next level.

On top of your involvement with the Xbox Ambassadors Program and all of the community efforts you take part in, you’re also a full-time professional. What do you do, and how do you balance your love of gaming with your work life?

I am a lawyer and criminologist. I have a degree in criminal justice from Pace University in New York City. I then went to law school at the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico and am a court-certified conflict mediator.

It is hard to balance work and family life with my passion. I just think that throughout the years both my family and girlfriend have realized how good I am at what I do and have learned to accept it.

My dream is to work for Microsoft in Seattle. Leave the law behind and do what I love. Everything Xbox. This dream will not remain in a bucket list. It is something I hope to accomplish in the near future.

What sorts of games do you play in your free time? What are your all-time favorite games?

To answer the question fairly I have to say that my favorite games are: The Elder Scrolls Games, Gears of War, Forza Horizon, Grand Theft Auto. Two of my favorite games of all time are Shadows of the Damned and Borderlands 2.

The only types of games that I rarely play are fighting games.

Do you have an exciting gaming story you’d like to share (Ex. Unlocking a prized Achievement, a fascinating story moment in a game you haven’t been able to shake, etc.)?

I consider myself an Achievement hunter, and I think my most notable skill is getting those pesky collectibles, such as killing the 100 pigeons in GTA IV. I am nearing almost 80,000 Gamerscore, and my goal is to reach 100k by the end of 2017.

My most exciting gaming stories have happened as an Xbox Ambassador. Being able to achieve [Legendary four Seasons in a row] has truly felt awesome. Three Master Tier games and several other Rewards later, I still love what I do. The respect and camaraderie I have built during this past year is unprecedented. That has been the most exciting story for me, and I really hope it is only the beginning.

How about a favorite memory from one of your Extra Life streams?

My most memorable experience on an Extra Life Stream was being able to introduce fellow gamers [to] the Xbox Ambassadors Program. This was done in Spanish at the Microsoft Store here in Puerto Rico. I explained the ins-and-outs of the program as well as [displayed] three of my Top 100 Legendary Coins.

When and how did you hear about the Ambassadors Program? How have you seen the Program grow?

I have been an Ambassador since 2012 and I honestly don’t remember how I heard of the Program. So I guess you can say I was in hibernation for four years. Once I heard the Program was being revamped I got back into it and have not looked back since. I have seen the Program grow in huge leaps from Season to Season in terms of Rewards and the available Activities.

What Ambassador Activities do you most like taking part in, and why?

I am a Chat Guy. Ambassabank all the way for me! I just love that feeling of being able to help someone and to see their immediate reaction to my service. I also love to diffuse situations with swift language and solid knowledge on the questions I choose to answer.

Do you have any tips for Ambassadors who are just getting started? What about members of the Xbox Community who are looking to get involved with charitable works?

My advice for any new Ambassador is to hang out a bit in our Lounge, where you can find great tips from oldies like me and our Alphas.

If you are a gamer and want to give back in any way you can start off with established organizations like Team Extra Life. The other way of doing so is hitting the pavement and reaching out to people and organizations that can come together to create a cohesive event and unique experience to help your charitable cause.

Do you have a specific memory related to your time as an Ambassador you’d like to share?

I just love that feeling when that Top 100 Legendary Coin and email notification with the Master Tier Game Code arrive.
