Twelve Months of Taxel

One year of Mister Taxel

Hey folks! Mister Taxel here writing to celebrate with all of you that as of last week, I’ve been on staff for the Xbox Ambassadors program for a full year! Time has really flown by in my role as first an ACE and now a Community Manager for the program. This is the most fun job I’ve ever had, and I wanted to take some time to look back at my first year on the team.

My favorite parts (so far…)

I think my absolute favorite part of this job is getting to talk to and game with Xbox Ambassadors. I wasn’t aware of this community before I applied for this job, and I wasn’t sure what to expect when I started. What I found in my first week, was a huge group of passionate Xbox fans with all kinds of different interests, priorities, and favorite games to play. Despite the diversity of viewpoints and backgrounds, I was welcomed with open arms and found a whole lot of friendly folks who were excited to share how they felt about the program, gaming, and whatever else was on their minds that day.

Beyond just being welcoming and inclusive, I’ve also seen Ambassadors lift each other up when they’re down and act as a support network to Ambassadors in crisis. Seeing Ambassadors talk about how this community has helped them through tough times (and even saved their lives) makes me excited to get up and go to work each morning.

Another awesome perk of this job has been getting to meet people from all over the world. Not only have I gotten to meet people from all over the USA, but also Ambassadors from every continent besides Antarctica (if you’re an Ambassador living down there please tell me so I can say we’re on all 7 continents!).

19 Xbox Ambassadors gather in front of a screen for a group photo.

I remember being so excited when we put together an LFG around For Honor and we had Ambassadors from Iraq, Canada, the US, the UK, and who knows where else all in the same Xbox Live Party. Being able to get people together who are physically thousands of miles apart and to share our love for the same game on the same platform at the same time is a truly magical thing, and it’s so common in this program that we can take it for granted.

I could go on and on about the bright sides of my time on staff so far, but the last one I’ll talk about today is the gaming aspect. We are all here because of our love for Xbox, after all, and my time on staff here has taught me a lot about my console, the games I play, and the many (many) games I need to get to someday. I get recommendations all day, every day and, while it’s stressful to be building such a deep backlog, it makes me happy to hear from Ambassadors about their favorite games and why they deserve to be next on everybody’s list.

Getting to consistently try out new games and having Ambassadors offer to show me the ropes has been a major highlight of the last year for me, and I’m always looking forward to the next recommendation!

Here’s to another excellent year

As always, we have a whole lot of awesome work coming down the pipeline. I’m really looking forward to sharing news on all kinds of program improvements and new features, but this blog is a recap and not a preview (no spoilers!). Keep an eye on the blog, our streams, and our various social channels for exciting news and program updates! If you and I haven’t spoken directly yet, please send me a message on Discord, Twitter, or Xbox so we can get to know each other!

Finally, I want to hear how I’m doing as a CM. Please let me know where I’m doing well, and where I’m not, so I can make sure I’m doing the best job possible as a member of your Community Manager team! Here’s to another excellent year of this amazing program, and I’m sure I’ll be talking to you soon.
